CPP Tax Credit Calculation 2024

The contributors who want to manually calculate the amount of credit then can use the steps we described here. The tax credit which we calculate is based on the lowest tax rate which is 15% for this Year.

  • The Contributor is an employee and contributes $3000 to CPP then the tax credit they can get is $3000 * 15% = $450.
  • The Citizen is an employee and has an annual income of $50,000. Then the calculation for the tax credit is:

Income 50,000 minus Basic Exemption Amount $3500 is equal to $46500 which are the contributory earnings.

Now apply a contribution rate of 5.95% to it and this results into Total CPP Contributions which are $2766.75.

We will apply the lowest income tax rate of 15% to the contribution made. This resulted in the tax credit of $415.01.

  • The Contributor is a self employed person and has annual earnings of $50,000.

Income 50,000 minus Basic Exemption Amount $3500 is equal to $46500 which are the contributory earnings.

Now apply a contribution rate of 11.90% to it and this results into Total CPP Contributions which are $5533.50.

Now on this amount we will not apply the lowest income tax as it also includes the portion of the employee and only the employer part can be reduced from the taxes. So we will only compute the employer portion.

This employer part can be contributed as 46500 * 5.95%  = $2766.75. We will apply the lowest income tax rate of 15% to the contribution made. This resulted in the tax credit of $415.01.
